Academic Museum, Coimbra

Housed within the historic walls of the Colégio de São Jerónimo, the Academic Museum of Coimbra is a testament to the deep-rooted traditions and vibrant academic culture of this storied university city. Established in 1987 by professors of the Academic Association, the museum serves as a custodian of Coimbra’s student heritage, showcasing the artistic, social, and cultural life that has shaped generations of scholars.

The museum’s collection spans from the late 19th century to the present day, offering a fascinating glimpse into ceramics, medals, jewelry, textiles, paintings, sculptures, engravings, and posters. A particular highlight is its musical collection, featuring the instruments of Coimbra Fado, a distinct local genre with deep academic roots.
