Anawrahta Art Gallery, Yangon
The Anawrahta Art Gallery, established to showcase and honor Myanmar's artistic heritage, opened its doors in 2019. The gallery was inaugurated by Retired Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Thura U Tin Oo and the renowned artist Dr. U Lun Kywe.
The gallery's goal is to evolve into an Art Museum, proudly preserving and displaying Myanmar's traditional paintings. These works include oil, water, and ink sketches by the late U San Hlaing, a revered artist known for his contributions to the country's independence. The gallery currently holds 442 of his paintings.
In addition to U San Hlaing's work, the gallery features pieces by other notable Myanmar artists, both classic and contemporary. Art lovers and collectors can purchase many of these exquisite paintings, though some are reserved for our permanent collection.
The gallery also offers rare and valuable books and information papers from various countries, providing insights into art history and biographies of world-famous painters.
With over 900 paintings on display, visitors can browse their collection via a large LED screen or printed catalogues.
Additionally, the gallery offers a range of souvenirs featuring the visual artworks of renowned paintings, perfect for those who wish to bring a piece of art into their everyday lives.
