Ankara Aviation Museum, Ankara

The Ankara Aviation Museum is a military-themed aviation museum that is owned and operated by the Turkish Air Force. This museum is situated in the Etimesgut district of Ankara.

The museum was established by the Turkish Air Force (TUAF) and is the second of its kind in the country. It officially opened on September 18, 1998, with Sabiha Gökçen, Atatürk's adopted daughter and the first Turkish female combat pilot, in attendance.

Spanning 64,321 square meters, with 2,000 square meters indoors, this museum showcases a range of aircraft, including MIG series military planes. Notable pieces include a PZL-Mielec Lim-6 from the Bulgarian Air Force, a Shenyang J-6 from the Pakistan Air Force, and a MIG-21MF from the Hungarian Air Force. The museum also houses a 2001 replica of a Blériot aircraft named Fethi Bey, made for the TRT documentary "Altın Kanatlar" ("Golden Wings").

In the covered area, you'll find mockups of flying tests by Ottoman figures Lagari Hasan Çelebi and Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi from the 17th century, as well as various aircraft used by TUAF since 1911. The "History of Aviation in Turkey and the World" hall houses photos, documents, half-size mockups of Turkish-manufactured aircraft, TUAF ensigns, air force weapon system mockups, busts of TUAF commanders, historical aviator uniforms, banners, insignia, aviation casualty lists, and memorial items. Additionally, the museum displays objects from Cengiz Topel, a TUAF fighter pilot lost during the Battle of Tylliria, and features dedicated corners for Sabiha Gökçen's personal aviation items and Turkish female aviators.

In a building provided in 1999 by the TUAF Logistics Command and named "Mavi Dünya" ("The Blue World"), visitors have the opportunity to sit in the cockpits of Lockheed T-33 and Northrop F-5 aircraft.
