Apes' Den, Gibraltar

Apes' Den is a captivating destination nestled within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve in Gibraltar. Home to one of the famous troops of Barbary macaques, also known as Barbary apes, this location offers visitors a remarkable opportunity to observe these charismatic creatures from a close but respectful distance.

Located amid the stunning limestone cliffs of the Upper Rock, the reserve provides a sanctuary for the Barbary macaques, the only free-ranging monkeys in Europe. These mischievous primates have inhabited Gibraltar for centuries, becoming an iconic symbol of the Rock.

As you venture into Apes' Den, you are greeted by a unique environment combining rugged rocky terrain, historic military fortifications, and lush vegetation. This setting provides the perfect backdrop for the monkeys to roam freely.
