Archaeological Museum and Lapidarium, Pecs

Archaeological Museum and Lapidarium building was constructed in the eighteenth century and designed in late-Baroque style. The Archaeological Museum has rich collections of finds that reflect the history of the southeast and the region of Transdanubia from the prehistoric period until the Hungarian subjugation. Various exhibitions hold funeral artifacts such as Madonna from Zengővárkony that dates to the Stone Age or findings from the ancient burial of the Jakab hill region and many others. According to the tradition of the Jakab Hill inhabitants around 1000 BC, food, drinks and numerous tools were placed next to urns with the ashes of cremated bodies. The Museum also has a collection of Roman tombstones and sarcophagi found in the town.
