Arlington Cinema 'N' Drafthouse, Arlington

Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse is a single-screen movie and live-entertainment venue operating inside a historic Art Deco theater. The original Arlington Theatre opened in 1940, and the building was converted into the Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse in 1985. It is the only surviving theater in Arlington County from the cinema construction boom of the 1930s and 1940s that continues to operate as a movie theater.

The auditorium accommodates up to 295 guests and retains its historic stage, lighting facilities, storage areas, and a green room behind the movie screen. Comfortable chairs are arranged around tables and counters, allowing guests to order food and drinks without leaving the auditorium. The venue functions as a full restaurant and bar, serving an American-style menu, craft beers, wine, and cocktails through table-side service during screenings and performances. This arrangement combines the traditional movie-theater experience with casual dining. Movies remain an important part of the program, with second-run releases, classic films, family movie nights, sing-alongs, and themed screenings appearing on the schedule. Live entertainment is equally significant, particularly stand-up comedy, which anchors many weekend programs and brings national touring comedians to the historic stage.

Trivia nights, interactive entertainment, special programs, and private events are also held throughout the year. The preserved theater setting allows visitors to experience contemporary entertainment while retaining architectural and functional elements from the building’s original 1940 cinema.
