Bahnpark Augsburg (Augsburg Railway Park), Augsburg

The Augsburg Railway Park is a railway museum that features the Europa roundhouse, three historic steam locomotive halls with a workshop atmosphere, and a historic forge. These workshops are actively used to refurbish and restore rail vehicles, including the restoration of a historic railway mail coach for the Transport Center. The operational and listed steam locomotive 41 018, maintained by the Munich Steam Locomotive Company, is also serviced here.

Augsburg Railway Park is notable for being a significant monument of industrial culture in Bavaria. Covering around 25,000 square meters, it hosts historic locomotives from all over Europe. Among its collection, you’ll find a steam locomotive from the Habsburg monarchy era under Empress Sisi and a "secret locomotive" hidden in Sweden's forests during the Cold War. The museum also offers family-friendly attractions, such as a large model railway system, mini-train rides, and access to the driver’s cabs of steam and electric locomotives, including the well-known Emma from Jim Button and Lukas, the engine driver.

Preserving a technical landscape from the early 20th century, the railway park retains much of its original infrastructure from the time of the Royal Bavarian State Railways. This includes buildings from 1906 to 1922 and a complex water supply system built in 1906, featuring deep wells, a listed "water house," and a "water crane." A highlight of the site is the listed turntable, used historically to maneuver locomotives and distribute them among the 29 vehicle stands in the roundhouse. The turntable itself was meticulously restored between May 2011 and May 2015, reflecting the park’s dedication to preserving this piece of industrial heritage.
