Casa de San Juan Bosco (San Juan Bosco House), Ronda

San Juan Bosco House is a charming early 20th-century modernist mansion overseeing the edge of the famous Tajo gorge, right in the historic city center.

Originally built around 1850 and later remodeled with modernist elements by local architect Santiago Sanguinetti, the house was once owned by the Granada family before being bequeathed to the Salesian Priest Order as a nursing home for elderly priests.

Its unassuming façade hides a rich interior featuring a beautiful courtyard decorated with colorful Nasrid-style ceramics and an impressive collection of regional tiles.

Inside, visitors can explore rooms filled with 19th-century tapestries, exquisite walnut furniture, and a main hall fireplace that showcases traditional craftsmanship. Highlights include a chapel adorned with paintings and a veranda decorated with bullfighting engravings by renowned ceramist Pedro Mercedes.

The dining room opens onto terraced gardens, offering a peaceful retreat with vibrant flowerbeds, a tiled staircase, a fountain, and palm trees. From its gardens, the house provides breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding Ronda countryside and the dramatic gorge below, making it a true balcony to the mountains and a testament to the area’s rich cultural heritage.
