CEPA Gallery, located in Buffalo’s historic Market Arcade Complex, is a vibrant hub for photography and contemporary visual arts. Founded in 1974 during the Alternative Space Movement by University at Buffalo graduates, CEPA-short for Center for Exploratory and Perceptual Arts-has evolved into a nationally recognized arts center.

With three galleries showcasing a rotating lineup of thought-provoking exhibitions, CEPA highlights work by both established and emerging artists. Its focus ranges from culturally and politically engaged photography to contemporary visual art and architectural studies of Buffalo. The space is not just a gallery, but a platform for multimedia public art, community events, and creative exploration.

CEPA also plays a vital educational role, offering programs for learners of all ages, including professional workshops like studio lighting classes. Visitors have access to ten Apple workstations with Adobe software, a fully equipped black-and-white darkroom, a digital photo lab, and an extensive resource library. Easily accessible by public transit and nestled between Main and Washington Streets, CEPA Gallery remains a cornerstone of Buffalo’s art scene-encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning through visual expression.
