Chapel on Gebhard's Mountain, Bregenz (must see)

Chapel on Gebhard's Mountain, a church on the mountainside with a most spectacular view of Bodensee, is located on the remains of Hohenbregenz Castle, destroyed by the Swedes in 1647. First mentioned in records dating back to 1209, in 1400 semi-circular steeples were constructed on the inner walls and the Church of Saint George was founded. The legendary Saint Gebhard, Gebhard von Constance, was born here at the beginning of the 14th century. Nowadays the castle serves as a restaurant. In 1964, when the restaurant was being planned, a canon from the Thirty Years War and a Gothic ceiling in the Knight’s Parlor were found, which became part of the Vorarlberg Land Museum's collection.
