Church of Saint Perpetua and Saint Felicity of Nimes, Nimes

Church of Saint Perpetua and Saint Felicity of Nimes, Nimes

The Church of Saint Perpetua and Saint Felicity of Nimes is a quintessential example of eclectic architecture from the Second Empire period. Located within the Gard department and the Languedoc-Roussillon region, this church features a prominent bell tower with a high spire that rises 71 meters above the Charles-de-Gaulle esplanade. Atop the spire is an impressive wrought iron cross, measuring 8 meters in total, with 5 meters embedded within the spire itself.

The church's slender nave soars to over 20 meters. Designed by architect Léon Feuchère, the church’s interior decorations were created by Joseph Felon and Colin, similar to those of the prefecture. The foundation stone was laid in October 1852 by Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, and while the main construction was completed in the autumn of 1862, the final touches were not finished until 1864. The church was consecrated in June of that year.
