City Plex Towers, Tulsa

CityPlex Towers is a striking three-tower complex located at 81st Street and Lewis Avenue in Tulsa. Originally constructed by Oral Roberts University in the early 1980s, the complex was envisioned as the City of Faith Medical and Research Center-a bold experiment in combining modern medicine with charismatic Christian healing.

Inspired by a religious vision following a family tragedy, televangelist Oral Roberts designed the facility to serve as a world-class medical and teaching institution, blending spiritual prayer with clinical care. At its peak, volunteer “prayer partners” would offer spiritual support alongside traditional treatment. The complex became instantly recognizable for the colossal Praying Hands bronze sculpture that once stood at its entrance-now relocated to the nearby ORU campus.

The CityPlex complex features three triangular towers: the 60-story CityPlex Tower, Oklahoma’s third tallest, with a top-floor dining room overlooking the Arkansas River; the 30-story West Tower, mostly vacant above the ninth floor; and the 20-story East Tower, home to various tenants. Together, they offer over 2.2 million square feet of space, connected below the fifth floor by a shared base with auditoriums, a fitness center, dining options, and other amenities.

Today, the complex is home to three hospitals, over 20 surgery suites, and more than 100 businesses. The lower levels include the Oklahoma Surgical Hospital, while the upper floors host call centers, media operations, and commercial tenants. Notably, the site once housed the rise and fall of Commercial Financial Services, a major debt collection company founded by Bill Bartmann, who later returned with his new venture, CFS II.

Though its original mission has evolved, CityPlex Towers remains one of Tulsa’s most iconic and ambitious structures-a towering symbol of faith, healing, and reinvention.
