Comstock-Harris House, Orlando
The Comstock-Harris House, located in Winter Park, is a historically significant residence that gained recognition by being included in the National Register of Historic Places on January 13, 1983. Initially, a modest dwelling was constructed on the property in 1878. However, in 1883, the house underwent substantial transformation when it was acquired by William C. Comstock, a businessperson from Chicago. It was then redesigned into its present form, characterized by the grand Queen Anne architectural style.
The Comstock-Harris House, also known as Eastbank, holds the distinction of being the oldest surviving residence in Winter Park and is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Osceola. Originally designed as a winter cottage, the house boasts three stories and three staircases. A prominent feature is the primary staircase, which gracefully turns in front of a beautifully adorned stained glass window. The house's foundation, as well as all six interior fireplaces, are constructed from red bricks.
Originally, the house was painted in a yellow hue with dark green trim. The surrounding grounds, prior to being subdivided, encompassed a vast expanse of sixty acres. Along the extended driveway, which now bears the name Bonita Drive, majestic camphor trees once provided a scenic approach to the residence. Today, the Comstock-Harris House has been converted into a private residence.
