Dashdorjiin Natsagdorj Monument, Ulaanbaatar

The Dashdorjiin Natsagdorj Monument honors one of Mongolia’s most beloved literary figures, Dashdorjiin Natsagdorj. He is often regarded as the founder of modern Mongolian literature-author, poet, playwright, and journalist-whose works helped shape the nation’s cultural identity during a period of great change.

The statue was originally erected in 1966 by sculptor L. Makhbal in what was then Children’s Park. It portrays Natsagdorj in a moment of creative endeavor, writing with pen in hand, capturing his literary spirit and intellectual contribution. Over time, its location was changed: in 2013 it was moved in front of the Ulaanbaatar Hotel, replacing a former statue of Lenin.

The pedestal features verses from his famous poem “My Homeland” inscribed in Classical Mongolian script, a homage not just to the man but also to the language and heritage he cherished and helped elevate.
