Denny Sanford Premier Center, Sioux Falls
The Denny Sanford Premier Center is the largest indoor arena in Sioux Falls, serving as a premier venue for concerts, sporting events, conventions, and more. Opened in 2014, the arena is located on North West Avenue and is seamlessly connected to the Sioux Falls Arena and Sioux Falls Convention Center. Its naming rights were secured by Sanford Health, First Premier Bank, and Premier Bankcard in honor of T. Denny Sanford, a prominent philanthropist and businessman.
Discussions for a replacement of the Sioux Falls Arena began as early as 1999, as the original arena, built in 1961, struggled to accommodate the city’s growing population and event demands. By 2000, Sioux Falls’ population had nearly doubled to 124,000, prompting renewed calls for a modern events center. After years of deliberation, a public vote on November 8, 2011, approved the project, leading to construction commencing in 2014.
The Denny Sanford Premier Center, South Dakota’s largest indoor venue, seats up to 12,000 for concerts. The four-level arena includes luxury suites, loge boxes, and varied seating capacities: 10,600 for basketball/hockey, 5,750 for rodeo, and space for 180 tradeshow booths. It’s part of a complex with an 8,000-seat arena, a 243-room hotel, a 10,000-seat stadium, and a 4,000-seat baseball stadium.
Since opening, the Denny Sanford Premier Center has hosted a range of major concerts and sporting events. The inaugural concert featured Joan Jett and the Blackhearts alongside Starship featuring Mickey Thomas on September 24, 2014. Other notable performances include Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line on October 3, 2014.
The venue continues to attract high-profile musical acts, NCAA tournaments, professional sporting events, and tradeshows, solidifying its status as the premier entertainment hub in the region. With its strategic location and accessibility from Interstates 90 and 29, ample parking, and state-of-the-art amenities, the Denny Sanford Premier Center remains a key focal point in Sioux Falls’ cultural and entertainment landscape.
