Deutsches Museum Bonn (German Museum Bonn), Bonn
The German Museum Bonn is the southernmost stop on Bonn’s popular Museum Mile and serves as a branch of the well-known German Museum in Munich. Located in the Science Center building since 1995, it focuses on science and technology developed in Germany after 1945. Visitors can discover topics such as physics, biology, chemistry, medical devices, and environmental science through around 100 thoughtfully presented exhibits.
A major highlight-and a significant transformation since 2020-is the “Mission AI” section. This 1,400 m² interactive experience, spread over two levels, invites guests of all ages to experience, understand, and help shape artificial intelligence, with hands-on stations and guidance from museum staff. Through themed zones like “AI:Fundamentals” and “RoboMob,” the exhibit makes complex AI concepts approachable and entertaining for families, students, and solo explorers alike.
Historically, the museum also displays technological milestones such as the full-scale Transrapid 06, the world’s first maglev train prototype, located directly outside its doors. Inside, rotating exhibitions and demos-such as a model of the Polarstern research vessel or a sound installation “Climatone”-highlight new research, merging history with science.
