Early Founders Memorial Stone, Singapore

The Foundation Stone of the Monument honoring the Early Founders of Singapore, often referred to as the Early Founders Memorial Stone, serves as a national memorial dedicated to the initial settlers, known as the "Unknown Immigrants," of Singapore. This concept originated from an alumni association, which organized an open design competition for the memorial project. Initially, the foundation stone was placed along Collyer Quay Street outside the Fullerton Hotel in 1970. However, due to a series of obstacles and delays, the project was ultimately abandoned as no suitable design was selected. Consequently, the foundation stone itself became the memorial.

In 2000, the memorial was relocated to the National Archives of Singapore at Canning Rise before being returned to the grounds of The Fullerton Hotel in 2010. The foundation stone comprises a rectangular granite stone atop a pyramid-shaped brick pedestal, featuring inscriptions in the four official languages of Singapore, namely English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil.
