E&S Gallery, Louisville

E&S Gallery in Louisville is a nationally recognized fine art and custom framing gallery specializing in African American art. Founded in 1989 by Walter Shannon and now co-operated with his wife, Cathy, the gallery has evolved from a modest 2,500-square-foot strip mall space into an expansive 11,000-square-foot venue that includes a showroom, custom framing facility, and art publishing company. E&S has built its reputation on showcasing original works by leading contemporary African American artists as well as preserving the legacy of Harlem Renaissance masters.

The gallery's curated collections include paintings, sculptures, and fine art prints by icons like Elizabeth Catlett, Jacob Lawrence, Richard Mayhew, and Ed Dwight, alongside contemporary names such as Dean Mitchell, Kevin Williams, and Leroy Campbell. In addition to individual collectors, E&S serves an impressive roster of corporate and celebrity clients, including Muhammad Ali, Bob Johnson, and organizations like Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and PNC Bank. Framing services are a major draw as well, known for their craftsmanship and artistic attention to detail.

E&S has earned numerous accolades, including being named “Best Gallery in Kentucky” and one of the “Top 25 Galleries in the U.S.” by American Art Awards since 2015. It has been featured in national publications such as Black Enterprise, Southern Living, and Art Business News, and has participated in high-profile events including the Kentucky Derby Grand Gala and the Capital Jazz Super Cruise.

More than a gallery, E&S is a cultural institution that celebrates and amplifies the work of African American artists past and present.
