Eslite Bookstore, Taipei

Eslite Bookstore, a prominent retail bookstore chain in Taiwan, boasts an extensive collection of English-language publications and translation materials. The company is headquartered in the Xinyi District of Taipei.

Founded in 1989 by Robert Wu Ching-yu, Eslite initially opened its first store on Dunhua South Road in the Daan District of Taipei, with a primary focus on art and humanities-related books. Over time, Eslite expanded its operations, establishing additional outlets and diversifying its range of available titles. Notably, Eslite Bookstore was a pioneer in Taiwan, introducing the concept of a 24-hour bookstore at its Dunhua branch, catering to late-night readers.

Eslite currently operates 38 branches across Taiwan, primarily targeting urban areas such as Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Yilan, Zhongli, Hsinchu, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung.

In 2012, Eslite expanded beyond Taiwan, opening its first international branch in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, at Hysan Place. This location achieved significant book sales, totaling 706,000 books in 2014. Subsequently, in 2015, Eslite launched its second Hong Kong outlet at Star House in Tsim Sha Tsui.

On November 29, 2015, Eslite Bookstore made its debut in China, establishing its first branch in the city of Suzhou, Jiangsu. In 2022, Eslite made its foray into Southeast Asia by inaugurating its first bookstore in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on December 17th. This establishment operates under the name "Eslite Spectrum."
