First Presbyterian Church, Wichita

First Presbyterian Church was constructed between 1910 and 1912 from robust limestone in the Gothic Revival style by the Cleveland-based firm Badgley & Nicklas. It represented a significant development in Wichita’s cityscape, designed with spires and a lantern tower that draws the gaze skyward, symbolically lifting people toward the divine .

Walk through its doors, and you enter a sanctuary with vaulted ceilings and clustered stone columns, creating an atmosphere of hushed grandeur, while stained-glass windows depict moments of city history. In 1936, the church expanded to include the Sara Blair Case educational wing-a three-story limestone extension by local architect Glenn Thomas- integrating with the original Gothic aesthetic.
