First-St Andrew's United Church, London

First-St Andrew's United Church, London

First–St. Andrew’s United Church was formed in 1925 through the union of two earlier congregations, First Congregational Church and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Both had roots in the 19th century and reflected different Protestant traditions that later joined as part of the United Church of Canada. The merger brought together members and resources, creating a single congregation with a shared identity that continues to shape its activities.

The building reflects early 20th-century church design, combining elements of Gothic Revival with simpler, more modern features. Its exterior uses stone and brick with pointed windows and a balanced form. Inside, the sanctuary centers on the pulpit and choir, with seating arranged for clear visibility and sound. Stained glass and woodwork add detail and reflect careful craftsmanship.

Music has long been central to the church, supported by an organ and an active choir that contribute to both services and concerts. Over time, the building has been adapted to include meeting rooms and spaces for community programs. Today, it functions as both a place of worship and a gathering space, hosting services, educational activities, and outreach work that reflect its continued role in everyday community life.
