Galeria Via Nueva (Via Nueva Gallery), Cordoba

Galería Vía Nueva is a traditional indoor commercial passage known for its strong link with youth culture, alternative fashion, tattoos, piercings, and independent shops. It gained visibility in the late 1980s and 1990s, when small shops gave it a counter-cultural identity. Locals even nicknamed it the “Bond Street of Córdoba.”

One of its best-remembered spaces was Perro Records, a reference point for alternative music, rock, punk, imports, and independent demos before online listening changed music discovery. For many local music fans, the gallery was not only a place to shop, but also a meeting point where people exchanged recommendations, found unusual records, and connected with scenes outside mainstream culture. This memory still gives the passage cultural value, even as its commercial life has weakened.

Today, Galería Vía Nueva shows the difficult situation faced by many traditional downtown galleries. Many units are now closed, empty, or offered for lease or sale. For tourists, the gallery is less a busy shopping stop than a place to notice urban change, alternative cultural memory, and the decline of a once-active retail scene.
