Galerija Zala (art gallery), Ljubljana

Galerija Zala (art gallery), Ljubljana

Galerija Zala is a private commercial art gallery established in 1991, specialising in Slovenian fine art from the 20th century to the present day. Its programme combines exhibitions of major modern painters with works by contemporary and emerging artists, including paintings, prints, sculpture, and works on paper. The gallery also researches privately owned Slovenian artworks not documented in public collections.

The gallery has exhibited works by leading Slovenian artists such as Zoran Mušič and Gabrijel Stupica, together with Impressionists and later generations of painters. One of its best-known achievements was a 2006 retrospective assembled entirely from private collections, tracing every creative period of Mušič's career from the 1930s to 2000. The gallery helped recover Stupica’s Girl with the Bouquet III from a private collection in the United States. Its two compact exhibition rooms allow visitors to view artworks closely.

Galerija Zala regularly organises exhibition openings, artist presentations, and cultural events while collaborating with collectors, researchers, and institutions. The gallery has presented Slovenian art in London, Vienna, and Belgrade. It also supports Rotary charity auctions and publishes an annual calendar featuring works from private collections.
