Hill Family Estate, Napa

Hill Family Estate, Napa

Hill Family Estate is a testament to generations of dedication to farming, winemaking, and family collaboration. It all began in 1981 when Doug and Darci Hill settled in Yountville, California, with their children, Ryan and Carly. The Hill children grew up immersed in the land-playing in vineyards, raising chickens, and assisting neighbors in growing organic produce for local restaurants, including the renowned French Laundry.

Doug Hill, a third-generation farmer, originally worked with prunes and apples along the Russian River before transitioning to vineyard management in Napa Valley in the 1970s. Over the next few decades, he acquired and leased vineyards, supplying top-tier grapes to acclaimed wineries such as Silver Oak, Far Niente, Quintessa, and Cakebread. By 2001, after nearly forty years of farming, the Hills established the Hill Family Estate, bringing their passion for grape growing full circle by producing wines under their label.

Today, the Hill Family owns and cultivates 120 acres of vineyards across prime Napa Valley terroirs, including Atlas Peak, Carneros, and Oak Knoll. Their commitment to sustainable, environmentally friendly farming ensures the creation of balanced, high-quality vines. Remaining 100% family-owned and operated, Doug continues to oversee vineyard management and winemaking, while Ryan leads sales efforts, ensuring their wines reach select markets across the country. Carly contributes from Southern California, hosting tastings and events, while Darci welcomes guests to the tasting room.

Located in downtown Yountville, the Hill Family Estate tasting room offers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, featuring an eclectic mix of décor-ranging from a Fender electric guitar to wine-stained baseball bats. Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are recommended for groups of six or more, particularly on weekends.

Rooted in a love for Napa Valley and a dedication to both farming and winemaking, Hill Family Estate represents the fulfillment of Doug Hill’s vision: a place where family, history, and exceptional wine come together to be shared with enthusiasts near and far.
