Hume-Fogg High School, Nashville

Hume-Fogg High School, Nashville

Hume-Fogg Academic High School is a public magnet high school situated in downtown Nashville, catering to students in grades 9 through 12. The school's roots trace back to its predecessor, Hume High School, which was established in 1855 on Eighth Avenue (formerly Spruce Street) and Broad Street, making it Nashville's first public school. In 1875, Fogg High School emerged as the city's second public school, sharing the same premises as Hume High School and facing Broad Street. The two schools merged in 1912, forming Hume-Fogg at its current location on Broadway, in a Tudor Revival-style building.

In the school year 2004-2005, Hume-Fogg commemorated its 150th anniversary. Notably, the campus served as the backdrop for Taylor Swift's music video for the song "Teardrops on My Guitar" in 2007. Furthermore, in 2008, it became the first magnet school and the second Metro school to introduce lacrosse.

Hume-Fogg, as an academic magnet school, primarily offers Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, excluding physical education (P.E.) classes. It has earned a distinguished reputation for its academic excellence, with nearly 100 percent of its graduates annually advancing to four-year colleges, often securing prestigious academic scholarships in the process. Each year, the Hume-Fogg senior class collectively receives over ten million dollars in scholarship and grant funds from various universities across the United States.
