King Abdul Aziz Darat (King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives), Riyadh

The King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives, commonly referred to as Darah, is a central part of the King Abdulaziz Historical Center, a prominent cultural hub inaugurated in 1999 to mark the centennial of King Abdulaziz’s return to Riyadh. Established in 1972 and later integrated into the historical complex, Darah serves as a research institution dedicated to safeguarding and showcasing the legacy of the Kingdom’s founding monarch.

The foundation is located on the historic grounds of Murabba Palace, which was constructed between 1936 and 1938 and served as the king’s royal residence and court until his death in 1953. Today, this area has been transformed into a heritage museum and research centre.

It holds an extensive collection of King Abdulaziz’s personal writings, rare photographs, official documents, vintage automobiles, and a dedicated memorial gallery. The site blends restored mudbrick structures and landscaped courtyards with contemporary museum features, reflecting traditional Najdi architecture.
