Klovićevi Dvori Gallery, Zagreb

The Klović Palace Gallery (Klovićevi Dvori Gallery) is a prominent art gallery situated in Zagreb. It's named in honor of Juraj Julije Klović, a renowned 16th-century artist from Croatia, famed for his exceptional work in manuscript illumination during the Italian Renaissance.

This gallery is housed in a structure that was once an 18th-century Jesuit monastery, located in the Gradec area of Zagreb's Upper Town. This area is a historical hub, surrounded by significant landmarks like Saint Catherine's Church, Saint Mark's Square, the Old City Hall, and Lotrščak Tower. Additionally, it's close to the upper station of the Zagreb funicular and the Museum of Broken Relationships.

Established in 1980, the gallery was initially set up to exhibit the vast art collection of Ante Topić Mimara. Over the next two years, the former monastery was transformed into an exhibition space. It opened to the public in March 1982, hosting significant shows, including international exhibitions like Albrecht Dürer's engravings, and works by Oton Gliha and sculptor Dušan Džamonja. A highlight of its early years was the 1984 exhibition of ancient Chinese art from the National Museum of China, drawing a huge number of visitors.

In 1985, the gallery expanded its facilities to include the nearby Lotrščak Tower. Over the years, both the Klović Palace Gallery and Lotrščak Tower have remained active in Zagreb's historic Upper Town, showcasing a diverse range of exhibitions that highlight the works of both Croatian and international artists. Each year, the gallery hosts approximately 30 exhibitions, establishing itself as one of the largest institutions of its kind in the country.
