Kula Sv. Marka (St. Mark Tower), Trogir

Saint Mark Tower sits on a somewhat rectangular island nestled in a sea channel between the island of Čiovo and the mainland. Once a fortified city, the tower now occupies what was originally the northwest corner of the city walls.

The Venetians began constructing the tower in 1470, though progress was slow, and it wasn’t completed until the late 15th century. The sturdy, circular tower was once connected to the city’s north and west walls and was nearly surrounded by water. Initially, it featured a parapet, but this was gone by the first half of the 17th century.

With walls up to 3 meters thick, the tower stands two stories tall. In recent years, it was used as a small bar, but now it sits abandoned and inaccessible. Nearby, you can also visit the early 15th-century Kamerlengo Castle, and the old city’s narrow alleyways.
