La Cigale, Auckland

La Cigale, Auckland

Established in 1997 by Elizabeth and Mike Lind, La Cigale is a weekly French style Farmers Market held at Saint Georges Bay Road, in Parnell suburb of Auckland. Elizabeth and Mike have been travelling to France for many years and have been inspired by all aspects of French style – from fashion to interior decoration to food & wine. La Cigale also offers antique items brought from dealers and markets throughout France with most coming from the South. Most pieces date from the mid to late 19th century and there is a strong emphasis on furniture and objects related to France’s other major pastimes, namely food and wine: old bistro tables and chairs, grape harvesting containers, cave a vin (bottle storing cages), wine bottle carriers, wine presses and so on. Most shipments include some pieces from the 18th and 20th centuries and some stone pieces are from the mid 17th century. Antique cutlery and mid 20th century costume jewellery are also much sought after.
