Lansky's, Memphis

Lansky Brothers, commonly known as Lansky's, is a renowned clothing store in Memphis with a rich history and significant influence in the music and fashion industries. Established in 1946 by Bernard Lansky on Beale Street, the store initially sold surplus Army supplies. However, it quickly pivoted to become a hub for dressing iconic musicians. In its early days, Lansky's clientele included legends like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and the store's most famous patron, Elvis Presley.

In 1956, a landmark moment occurred when Lansky dressed Elvis for his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, cementing both the store's and Elvis' style icon status. The association with Elvis was so profound that in 2001, Lansky's launched a line called "Clothier To The King," featuring Elvis-inspired clothing.

The store underwent significant changes over the years. It moved from its original location to the lobby of the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. This relocation was followed by the opening of a second store within the Hard Rock Cafe complex in 2014. These expansions allowed Lansky's to serve a new generation of musicians, including The Jonas Brothers and Steven Tyler.

Bernard Lansky, often referred to as "Mr. B" by his loyal customers or "Clothier to the Stars" in the wider world, was a pivotal figure in the store's success. His passing in 2012 marked the end of an era, but the legacy of Lansky's continues under the stewardship of his son Hal and granddaughter Julie, who run the business at the Peabody Hotel location.
