Laumeier Sculpture Park, Saint Louis

Laumeier Sculpture Park is an outdoor museum and public park in Sunset Hills, Missouri, that combines large-scale contemporary art with natural landscapes. Officially opened on July 7, 1976, the park was established after Matilda Laumeier bequeathed her family's estate to St. Louis County in memory of her husband, Henry Laumeier. It became one of the first dedicated open-air sculpture museums in the United States after local sculptor Ernest Trova donated 40 monumental works to form the foundation of the collection.

Today, the park operates across 105 acres of woodlands, rolling meadows, and walking trails, offering free admission to the public throughout the year. The park's permanent collection includes more than 70 large-scale sculptures by nationally and internationally recognized artists. Works by Alexander Liberman, Tony Tasset, Donald Judd, Beverly Pepper, Ernest Trova, Mark di Suvero, and others are carefully integrated into the landscape, encouraging visitors to experience the artworks while exploring the grounds. In addition to its outdoor collection, Laumeier features the modern Adam Aronson Fine Arts Center for indoor exhibitions, while the property's historic 1917 Tudorstone mansion has been preserved to serve as the Kranzberg Education Lab.

Beyond its galleries, Laumeier Sculpture Park hosts guided tours, artist talks, workshops, family programs, and seasonal events throughout the year. Walking paths, picnic areas, and diverse natural habitats allow visitors to combine contemporary art with outdoor recreation. By integrating sculpture, education, landscape design, and conservation, the park continues to support living artists while serving as an important public green space.
