Mirador De Sachaca (Sachaca Viewpoint), Arequipa

The Sachaca Viewpoint is one of Arequipa’s most striking viewpoints, rising 19 meters above the city and surrounding countryside. Built in 1988 on the former cemetery hill of Sachaca, the tower was later renovated in 1996, expanding to a wider platform of 29 square meters. Its structure combines iron, wood, and ashlar veneer anchored into the rock, allowing it to accommodate up to 30 visitors at a time. With five floors connected by staircases on either side, the viewpoint offers an ascending journey where each level reveals an even broader perspective of the city and its natural surroundings.

The climb takes around eight minutes, and at the third level, visitors encounter the Cristo Blanco, a 2.5-meter marble statue of Christ the Redeemer. Originally crafted in France in 1969 and sent to the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, the statue was later donated to the district, where it has since become a symbolic feature of the tower. The serene presence of the monument enhances the site’s cultural and spiritual value, while also providing an excellent backdrop for photographs.

From the terrace at the very top, the panorama opens fully: the city of Arequipa stretches out below, framed by the green valleys and farmland, while the imposing silhouettes of Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu dominate the horizon. It is one of the most rewarding places in the city to capture the beauty of a sunset, when the mountains and sky shift through shades of gold and red.
