Modern Art Museum, Sintra

The Modern Art Museum holds the collection of one of the richest men in the country: the famous art collector Jose Berardo, born in Portugal in 1944. It is located in a beautiful edifice built in 1920s. The museum displays modern and contemporary art of the 20th century by European and American artists. Some of the permanent exhibitions present such well-known artists as Francis Bacon, Miró, Andy Warhol and Picasso. Temporary exhibitions of Surrealism, Abstraction, Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, Pop Art and Photography artistic movements are often held there. The Modern Art Museum supports young talent and has a separate hall called New Gallery where their works are exhibited. The museum is closed on Mondays.
