Monte de San Pedro (San Pedro Mountain), La Coruna (must see)

San Pedro Mountain, located just 2 km northwest of the city center of La Coruña, is a remarkable hilltop park that blends breathtaking landscapes with historical significance. Originally constructed as a military coastal defense installation during the Interwar period, this site has been transformed into a public park that offers sweeping panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the cityscape.

One of the main attractions is the Atlantic Cupola, an observation dome that not only serves as a lookout but also features displays that provide insights into the history and geography of La Coruña. The park includes a charming maze, serene walking paths, and inviting spaces for relaxation.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted with expansive green spaces perfect for picnics, leisurely strolls, and photography. The park also houses a cafe and a restaurant, providing a perfect spot to relax and soak in the scenery.

A key historical feature of San Pedro Mountain is the Vickers cannons, colossal artillery pieces installed in 1929 as part of Spain's coastal defense system. These 381 mm caliber cannons, each measuring over 17 meters in length, were capable of firing one-ton projectiles across a staggering distance of 38 kilometers. Though only fired 19 times in their operational history, these massive guns once safeguarded the coastlines of La Coruña and Ferrol.
