Domus Science Museum, La Coruna

The Domus Science Museum is an innovative and interactive museum located along the scenic Seaside Promenade. Designed by the acclaimed Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, the building itself is an architectural marvel, with its curved façade blending seamlessly into the rugged coastline. Opened to the public on April 7, 1995, Domus is part of the Scientific Museums of La Coruña network, which also includes the House of Science and the Aquarium Finisterrae, creating a comprehensive scientific journey through human understanding, marine exploration, and astronomical discovery.

Domus is unique in its singular focus on the human species, with the museum's motto, "Know yourself, as an individual and as a species," reflecting its mission to inspire curiosity and reflection about human existence. Its 1,500 square meters of exhibition space are packed with nearly 200 interactive modules, encouraging visitors to engage with displays that explore anatomy, genetics, evolution, and human intelligence. Among its standout exhibits is the Neurons Games: Pieces of Human Intelligence, a vibrant installation featuring neuron networks crafted by Galician schoolchildren. The exhibit challenges visitors to test their own cognitive abilities through activities that measure reflexes, concentration, and mind-body coordination.

The museum also delves into the story of human evolution, offering visitors a chance to "take a family photo" with life-sized representations of hominid ancestors or test their aim with replicas of Paleolithic hunting tools. Beyond its permanent exhibitions, Domus features a 3D movie theatre, a temporary exhibitions hall, and an Open Lab for experimental learning. This commitment to hands-on discovery makes the museum a dynamic experience that appeals to both children and adults, blending education with play in a way that is both stimulating and insightful.
