Monumento a la Independencia, Guadalajara

Monumento a la Independencia is one of the city’s prominent landmarks and one of the most remarkable monuments, located south of downtown. The monument was created in 1910 to commemorate the centenary of Mexico’s independence and the abolition of slavery. This wonderful city site presents a pillar, which houses white marble sculptures of gracious female figures. One of them holds in her left hand a book while the other plays trumpet. On the main face of the pillar you will see a statue of Miguel Hidalgo, leader of the Mexican War of Independence. On the top stands a bronze figure of Victory with a book that proclaims the sovereignty of the country.
