Muresenilor Memorial Museum (Casa Muresenilor), Brasov
The Muresenilor Memorial Museum, located on Council Square (Piata Sfatului) Brasov, stands as a prominent historical and cultural landmark. Established in 1968 through the generous donation of the Muresianu family descendants, this museum honors the legacy of one of Transylvania's most influential families. The donation fulfilled the cultural testament of Iacob Muresianu, providing the Romanian state with a historic building, an extensive archive, and a valuable collection of art, furniture, and historical artifacts.
The museum’s archive, with over 25,000 documents, is one of Romania’s richest family archives, reflecting the cultural and political contributions of the Muresianu family. For more than half a century, family members led the influential newspaper Gazeta de Transilvania, establishing connections with key political and cultural figures of their era. The archive includes correspondence, manuscripts, and documents linked to Romania’s National Anthem, ''Wake up, Romanians'', penned by Andrei Muresanu, a family member.
Beyond its permanent exhibitions, the museum hosts temporary displays, classical music concerts, and cultural events. Notably, the “Gheorghe Dima” hall pays tribute to one of Romania’s significant cultural figures, showcasing his contributions to music as a composer and performer.
In 2006, the museum expanded with the inauguration of the "Stefan Baciu House," located at Dr. Gheorghe Baiulescu No. 9. This addition was made possible by a donation from Dr. Ovidiu Margineanu and reflects the museum’s commitment to evolving as a complex dedicated to the memory of Brasov's great personalities.
The Muresenilor Memorial Museum continues to serve as a vital repository of Transylvanian history and Romanian heritage, offering visitors an in-depth look at the cultural and political achievements of the Muresianu family.
