Musee du Calisson (Calisson Museum), Aix-en-Provence

Musee du Calisson (Calisson Museum), Aix-en-Provence

The Calisson Museum (Musee du Calisson) is dedicated to Provence's most famous confectionery, French candy Calisson.

Visitors to the museum will go on a tour of the factory that makes the candies. They will also watch the process of making the royal icing candy, its ingredients, and how it was prepared before and at present. Visitors can have a calisson tasting at the end of the tour.

The candies are made using natural, local sources. Some of these, such as the almond trees, can be seen while walking along the museum's botanic trail. More than 300 almond trees are in the garden, along with 11 beehives that support the trees and hundreds of flowering plants that support the bees. The Gardens of the King trail provides information about the history of the almond tree and its importance to Provence.

The museum is open daily. Guided tours are only available by reservation. Free, 30-minute tours are available throughout the week.
