Musee du Pere Pinchon (Museum of Father Pinchon), Fort-de-France

The Museum of Father Pinchon occupies the former site of the Chams villa, sharing space with the regional archives building. Spanning an area of 460 square meters, this museum serves as a tribute to the remarkable work of Father Robert Pinchon, a dedicated naturalist whose lifelong passion for fauna and flora left an indelible mark on Martinique.

Born Robert Pinchon in Seine-et-Marne on September 10, 1913, Father Pinchon's journey led him from theological and philosophical studies to a deep exploration of natural sciences. In 1945, he made the pivotal decision to relocate to Martinique, where he would spend the next 35 years of his life devoted to studying, cataloging, and preserving the island's rich biodiversity. His tireless efforts resulted in the assembly of an extraordinary collection comprising nearly 10,000 pieces, making it a rare and invaluable resource in the Caribbean.
