The Museum in the Kulturspeicher, established in a historic harbor warehouse since 2002, features art from the 19th century to contemporary times. The museum is divided into two main collections: the municipal collection, which includes regional 19th and 20th-century works, and the Peter C. Ruppert collection, focusing on post-1945 European concrete art from 23 countries. Notable directors include Marlene Lauter, Luisa Heese, and current director Marcus Andrew Hurttig. The museum has received the Bavarian Museum Prize in 2005.

The municipal collection, initiated in the 1920s by Heiner Dikreiter, includes landscapes, portraits, and works from the Leibl Circle and German Impressionism. During World War II, the collection expanded with acquisitions from the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich, including pieces by artists like Peter Scheurle and Arno Breker. Contemporary art in the museum features works by artists such as Stephan Balkenhol and Magdalena Jetelová. The museum's archives contain correspondence and legacies from various artists, enhancing its rich historical and artistic scope.
