National Science and Technology Museum, Kaohsiung
The National Science and Technology Museum is a premier destination for those curious about how science and industry have shaped modern life, both in Taiwan and around the world. Established in 1997 and spanning a massive 19 hectares in Sanmin District, the museum is divided by Jiuru Road into two sections: the North and South buildings. Its geometric architecture-composed of triangles, circles, and rectangles-makes it stand out visually, while its mission to promote technological education positions it as Taiwan’s largest museum of applied science.
Inside, visitors will find six floors of interactive and educational exhibits covering a range of topics, from energy and mechanics to information technology and daily-life innovations. Many of the displays are hands-on, making the experience especially engaging for children and families. With such a vast space-112,400 square meters in total-it’s recommended to focus on a specific section rather than attempting to see everything in one visit. In addition to permanent galleries, the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and features an IMAX 3D theater for immersive science films.
Beyond its indoor offerings, the museum includes outdoor green spaces and installation art, creating an inviting environment for relaxation and exploration. With two on-site restaurants and affordable entry fees, the museum serves as both an educational resource and a leisure destination.
