Nickle Arts Museum, Calgary

Nickle Arts Museum, Calgary

A trip to Calgary is certainly incomplete without a visit to the Nickle Arts Museum. This is where you will find a display of the city’s best artistic talents. This museum is located at the University of Calgary campus.

Founded in 1979, this museum came into existence through the generous donations offered by Mr. Samuel C. Nickle and from The Province of Alberta. Many other patrons contributed generously to enable the making of Nickle Arts Museum.

Since the time of its creation the museum relies on patron and donor contributions even though its base operating budget is managed by the University of Calgary. The Nickle Arts Museum has been promoting Numismatics and Contemporary Arts in Western Canada since the time of its establishment.

It also coordinated the Minor Program in Museum and Heritage Studies in 1996 that helped students gain an in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in the heritage and culture of Canada.

This museum is famous for holding informative programs and provocative exhibitions and holds the distinction of having the best exhibition space. In cooperation with the Numismatic and Art communities, general public and other University of Calgary departments, The Nickle Arts Museum promotes research, learning and discovery.
