Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum, Oklahoma City
The Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into centuries of firefighting history and culture. Founded in 1967 and housed in a historic 1969 building, the museum is owned and operated by the Oklahoma State Firefighters Association. Visitors will find themselves immersed in an impressive array of restored fire apparatus, antique uniforms, tools, and gear dating back to the mid-18th century.
One of the museum’s most remarkable highlights is the actual first fire station built in Oklahoma Territory in 1864, complete with the original hand-pump wagon. This tangible link to frontier firefighting is complemented by a collection of turn-of-the-century fire engines, including fine examples from local communities.
The museum also boasts the world’s largest firefighter patch collection-over 7,000 patches from around the globe-as well as an evocative 59-foot mural titled “The Last Alarm” and a powerful memorial wall honoring Oklahoma’s fallen firefighters, including those who responded to the 1995 Murrah Building bombing.
