Oklahoma Railway Museum, Oklahoma City

Oklahoma Railway Museum, Oklahoma City

The Oklahoma Railway Museum is a captivating destination born from the passion of the Central Oklahoma Railfan Club in 1970, opening its doors in 2000 and has since become a preservation hub for America’s railroading past. Spread across restored Missouri-Kansas-Texas tracks, the museum features an impressive collection of ten diesel and steam locomotives, alongside a fleet of passenger cars, freight cars, cabooses, and assorted equipment.

What truly sets this museum apart is its mission to offer history in motion. On the first and third Saturdays from April to September, vintage diesel and steam-powered train rides depart multiple times throughout the day - a rare opportunity to experience railroad travel as it once was.

Beyond regular rides, the museum hosts beloved events such as the Halloween Train, the Easter Express, and the magical Polar Express during the winter season. For a more immersive experience, the “At the Throttle” program lets you take the controls of a locomotive under the guidance of veteran engineers.

The grounds also include a beautifully restored 1905 Kansas City, Mexico & Orient depot that now serves as the ticket office and gift shop. While visiting, you’re sure to meet passionate volunteers restoring rolling stock and sharing tales of Oklahoma’s role in America’s railway boom.
