OKRA Arts, Crafts & Design Gallery, Helsinki

OKRA Arts, Crafts & Design Gallery, Helsinki

OKRA Arts, Crafts & Design Gallery is a gallery-shop devoted to contemporary Finnish craftsmanship. Every item is made in Finland by local artists and designers, giving visitors a focused introduction to the country’s present-day craft traditions. The bright interior uses simple shelving and open displays, allowing the colours, textures and forms of the objects to stand out.

The changing collection includes handmade ceramics, art glass, silver and glass jewellery, wooden objects, printed textiles, knitted clothing and leather accessories. Visitors may also find felt pieces, art prints, crocheted animals and decorative objects made from plywood or recycled materials. Many works are unique or produced in small series, and the selection combines practical household items with purely decorative pieces.

The gallery is owned by a group of Finnish artisans and designers, whose work is displayed alongside pieces by other selected makers. This direct connection with working craftspeople gives the shop a more personal character than a general souvenir store. Near the historic square and cathedral, the gallery fits easily into a walking tour. Its changing stock includes ceramics, jewellery, clothing and gifts.
