Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensboro
Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, located in Greensboro’s Sunset Hills neighborhood, is one of the city’s most prominent religious landmarks and the largest Catholic parish in Greensboro. Established as a memorial to Ethel Clay Price by her husband, Julian Price-a Baptist who admired his wife’s faith-the church was designed to resemble Our Lady of Refuge in Brooklyn. Though Price passed away before construction began, his children helped see the project through with additional funding, and the church was completed in 1952.
Architecturally, Our Lady of Grace stands out as one of Greensboro’s few true Gothic structures. Its pink granite façade, trimmed with Indiana limestone and adorned with sculptural details, gives the church an elegant and enduring presence. Inside, visitors find a soaring interior with brick and limestone vaults, ornate woodcarvings, a marble sanctuary, and an Italian altar. The 2,226-pipe Kleuker organ, dedicated in 1977, enhances the church’s liturgical and musical richness.
The church’s 30,000-piece Belgian stained glass windows are a particular highlight, depicting scenes such as the Assumption and the Immaculate Conception. A graceful sculpture of Our Lady welcomes visitors at the entrance. Beyond its visual beauty, the church also hosts Our Lady of Grace Catholic School, serving students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
Our Lady of Grace continues to be a vibrant center for worship, spiritual growth, and community service. Through sacraments, educational programs, and parish events, the church fosters a strong sense of fellowship rooted in faith and tradition.
