Palais de la Mediterranee, Nice
Mediterranean Palace (Palais de la Mediterranee) in Nice is a historical building that has been transformed into an art deco masterpiece. This luxury casino-hotel complex is located on the Walkway of the English (Promenade des Anglais) and is easily recognizable due to its massive cut white stone pieces. The original building was constructed in 1929 by the architects Charles and Marcel Dalmas. It was a center for the arts in Nice and hosted many national and international art exhibitions.
Mediterranean Palace epitomized 1930s glamour with its casino, theater, restaurant, and cocktail bar. However, the original hotel closed down in 1978. In 1989, two of its facades, the main Art Deco facade on the Walkway of the English (Promenade des Anglais) and the facade on Congress Street (Rue du Congrès), were classified as historical monuments. These facades were preserved during the demolition of the original building in 1990 to make way for a modernized hotel with 187 rooms, twelve suites, and a casino.
Mediterranean Palace has undergone several changes over the years, but it remains a significant landmark in Nice. It offers luxury accommodations and an exciting gaming experience. The hotel is owned by Constellation Hotels Holding and is a popular destination for tourists who want to experience the grandeur of its history and architecture.
