Plaza Moyua (Moyua Square), Bilbao

Plaza Moyua (Moyua Square), Bilbao

Moyua Square is one of the city's central and most distinguished squares. Founded in the 1940s, it was conceived by architect José Luis Salinas and has continued to charm visitors through its harmonious design and timeless elegance. In 1997, his son Manuel Salinas led a thoughtful renovation that honored the original layout while weaving in modern amenities and aesthetics.

The square’s unique elliptical shape is outlined by carefully maintained gardens that combine English and French design elements, featuring tree-lined walkways, flowerbeds, and a fully restored central fountain. Contemporary steel lampposts and seating areas add to its charm.

Surrounding Moyua Square are the city's architectural landmarks. Notably, the neoflamenco-style Chavarri Palace and the grandeur of the Hotel Carlton. The square also serves as a vital crossroads: eight major streets and avenues.
