Reuven Rubin House Museum, Tel Aviv

Reuven Rubin House Museum, Tel Aviv

The Reuven Rubin House Museum occupies the former residence and studio of Reuven Rubin, one of the most influential artists in the cultural history of Tel Aviv. Located in a district known for its historic homes and cultural institutions, the building itself was constructed in 1930. Rubin purchased the property in 1946 and lived and worked here with his family until his death in 1974.

Born in Romania, he came to the region in the early twentieth century and studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, later becoming one of the leading figures in modern Israeli painting. His works often combine European artistic influences with scenes inspired by the landscapes, people, and everyday life of the eastern Mediterranean.

The house was inaugurated as a museum in 1983 and today presents a close look at Rubin’s life and artistic legacy. The ground floor serves as the main gallery, displaying a rotating selection of his paintings alongside occasional guest exhibitions. On the second floor, another gallery is connected to a reading room and library that provide additional context about Rubin’s work and the development of Israeli art. The third floor preserves the artist’s studio almost exactly as it appeared during his lifetime.

Other areas of the museum further enrich the visit. The attic hosts screenings of a documentary about Rubin’s life, while the basement includes a children’s activity area that opens onto a small backyard.
