Royal Saudi Air Force Museum, Riyadh
The Royal Saudi Air Force Museum is a fascinating aviation-themed destination established in 1999 to mark the centenary of the recapture of Riyadh. This museum is part of the Saudi Ministry of Defense and offers visitors an engaging journey through the evolution of the Royal Saudi Air Force from its earliest days to modern operations.
The museum is thoughtfully divided into an outdoor static park and a spacious indoor exhibition area. In the open-air section, you’ll find an impressive lineup of full-size aircraft on display-including Lockheed L‑1011 Tristar, formerly Saudia, C‑130 Hercules, Tornado ADV and IDS, Boeing 707, and more.
Inside, the halls bring the story of Saudi aviation to life with exhibits of vintage and modern planes, flight simulators, flight suits, weaponry, engines, radar systems, photos, historical documents, and an inspiring space-themed corner dedicated to Prince Sultan bin Salman, the first Saudi astronaut.
As a visitor, you’ll find themed sections tracking the Royal Saudi Air Force’s development across five eras-from the pre‑founding period, from 1914 to 1925, through to modern times. Highlights include a display featuring the Dakota DC‑3 that carried King Abdulaziz in 1945, alongside immersive simulations for aircraft such as the F‑15 and Typhoon. Uniforms, medals, academy exhibits, and a chronological presentation of air bases add depth and context to the experience.
